Sometimes you meet someone and know you were meant to love them. You feel it so deeply. Maybe it’s butterflies, but something in your gut tells you it’s them. And then as time goes on and you spend more time with them, those fluttering nerves go away and you feel at ease. You feel peace, softness, comfort. This is when you start to wonder if they’re a soulmate.

When you believe you’ve met a soulmate, you start to look at the relationship through rose-colored glasses. They don’t bring you flowers — even though they know you like them. They see your favorite candy at the store and don’t get it for you because they thought of you. But at least they’re kind to you and your body. At least they’re faithful. At least they talk to you and spend time with you and love you.

You notice these good feelings and the good moments and hold on so tightly to them that you can’t even see the red flags, the blatant relationship differences, the attraction that is no longer there. You notice when things don’t feel good — just okay — but you don’t say anything. Instead, you shrink. You don’t give your needs and wants a voice.
