Gentle Reminders For Anyone Struggling With Their Anxious Thoughts
You are worthy.
You have worth, even when you feel unloved and unsuccessful, even when you feel lost and lonely. You are an important piece of this world. Your existence matters. Don’t let yourself forget it. Even on your lowest days, even when you’re feeling worthless, you still have value. Deep down, you know that’s true.
You should focus on the things you can control.
You can’t control the intrusive thoughts that pop into your head. You can’t control the way other people react to you. You can’t control whether your anxiety bothers you today or not. There are so many things you’re unable to control in this world, but your breathing is something you can control. Take some time to do your breathing exercises. Calm your body to calm your mind. It might not fix your problems completely, but it’s a start.
You are enough.
It’s easy to compare yourself to others, to point out all the ways you’re lacking, but you need to be gentle with yourself. You are smart enough. You are strong enough. You are talented enough. You are enough. Never let anyone or anything convince you otherwise, not even your anxiety.
It’s okay not to be okay.
You don’t have to push away your uncomfortable thoughts. You don’t have to pretend you’re completely fine when you’re screaming on the inside. You’re allowed to be upset. You’re allowed to cry. Your feelings are valid. It’s okay if you’re falling apart. That means you can start to rebuild.
Keep holding on.
Don’t give up on yourself. Hold on a little longer because things are going to get better. You won’t always feel this way. Eventually, you are going to be okay again. You just need to stick around long enough to prove it to yourself.
You are a warrior.
Anxiety sucks. Getting through each day isn’t easy for you, but you keep getting up and doing it again and again. The fact that rolling out of bed and getting dressed is much easier for other people shouldn’t get you down. It should remind you how hard you have to fight every waking moment. That makes you a warrior. That makes you a fighter.
Fears aren’t facts.
Just because you’re afraid no one will ever love you doesn’t mean it’s true. Just because you’re scared you’re never going to succeed doesn’t mean that’s the reality. Your worst fears aren’t cold, hard facts. Your anxiety is lying to you. It’s tricking you into viewing yourself in a negative light.
You’ve gotten through this pain before.
You might feel like this ache is never going to go away, but it has before. You might feel like you’re incapable of making it through another moment, but you’ve done it before. This isn’t your first day dealing with anxiety. You’ve pushed through it before, and you’ll push through it again. It might exhaust you. It might unravel you. But you are going to endure. And you should be proud of yourself for that.
